Blood paves the streets on Sunday mornings
Red trails on the concrete, the day dawns with mourning's
Failing to understand we tread on the departed soul
The body of a father, brother shall descend into a dark hole
You who have taken this soul, are you brother nor father to none
Can you handle the burden of this departed soul, when being asked one on one
As salt on a wound agitates
Knowing he was like you, infuriates
Unworried, you continue to pursue another victim to bother
Because he has money and posses ions you want, no longer is he your brother.
Tis not your father nor brother, therefore the means is justified.
Foolish, folly, fiendish inferior mind - both you and this mans lives co-inside
These blood thirsty cowards continue to deprive households
of a minority of hard working black men.
Funnily enough there is no excuse for what they do
'I don't have a choice, i cant even afford a shoe'
But you have two working feet.
'Yes but I'm hungry i don't have anything to eat'
Your hungry yet have energy to run around stabbing in the street.
This man has taken a life he didn't create, therefore it was not his to take
He has taken this life to temporarily better his, while he lives
Yet tomorrow another takes his to avenge the firsts
A vicious cycle,
When one breaks free from this cycle, he is asked - ugcine nini ekasi?
Don't take me back to nights where i heard and saw rain in my dreams
Because it literally fell on my forehead.
Don't take me back to nights when i heard gunshots and knew they were not fired into the air, But into someones flesh.
Don't take me back to nights when my stomach would not let me sleep
Because all it had to digest was water.
Don't take me back to nights when i prayed to Jah to find a way out.
Is that what you want me to go back to?
Don't blame me for living in a quit neighborhood where dog barks start to sound good.
Don't blame me for living in the area where every second house has a fire hydrant.
Don't blame me for choosing an afternoon jog over an afternoon smoke or drink.
Don't blame me for praying to God to thank him instead of pleading for help.
So instead of asking you...
'Ugcine nini ekasi,
Ill ask you,
Uphuma nini?
